How Truth Nightclub replaced third-party ticketing with a fully owned platform.

Truth was paying third-party platforms like Howler to sell its tickets, and getting incomplete customer data in return. Social Wiiv built Truth a fully white-label ticketing platform: owned infrastructure, complete data ownership, phased pricing, online promoter commissions, QR access control, banner advertising and email campaigns, all under the Truth brand.

Chapter 1 of 9

The brief

Third-party ticketing was costing Truth its data, its margin and its customer relationships. Every ticket sold was building someone else's database, not Truth's.

Truth Nightclub used third-party platforms like Howler to sell its event tickets. On the surface this worked: events went on sale and tickets sold. But the platforms kept control of the customer data, so Truth never had full access to the email addresses, phone numbers and purchase histories of the people coming through its doors.

The costs did not add up either. Per-ticket fees ate into margins, and the features Truth needed (pricing control, promoter management, access control, sponsor advertising) were missing or cost extra. Truth needed to own its ticketing outright.

“Every ticket sold on a third-party platform is a customer relationship you don't own. Truth wanted to change that — and build a platform that would let them market to, reward, and control access for their own audience.”
— Social Wiiv Platform Team

About Truth

One of South Africa's premier nightclub and entertainment venues, in Midrand, known for its premium events, DJ line-ups and loyal regulars, and a home for electronic music on Saturday nights. As the venue grew its events business, third-party ticketing became a strategic constraint, not just a cost.

The idea

Truth key visual: Your Night. Your Tickets. Seamless. Secure. Unforgettable. The official ticketing app for Truth Nightclub, shown on a phone and a laptop over a crowd under blue stage lights, with icons for easy ticketing, secure access, instant QR code and events at Truth.

Your Night. Your Tickets.

The brief called for a fully white-labelled ticketing platform: Truth's domain, Truth's branding, Truth's data, with the ticketing mechanics a busy venue needs, a promoter commission system, built-in email marketing, banner space for sponsors and fraud-proof QR entry at the door.

  • Own every customer record
  • Stop paying per-ticket platform fees
  • Control pricing: phases, bundles, upgrades
  • Sell through a network of online promoters
  • Market straight to Truth's own database
  • End screenshot fraud at the door

Chapter 2 of 9

One platform, in Truth's colours, on every screen

The whole platform runs on Truth's own domain: not a Social Wiiv subdomain, not a Howler embed. From the event listing to the purchase confirmation, every screen, email and QR code carries Truth's colours, fonts and logo, and all the data flows into Truth's own customer database.

The Truth ticketing site on a laptop: a menu with Events, My Tickets and My Passport, the Big Weekend event banner, Phase 1 and Phase 2 tickets with booking fees, and an order summary with a Proceed to checkout button.
On the web: the same event, tickets and checkout as the phone.
Truth home screen on a phone: an arrivals-board picture listing the season's events, with All Roads Lead to Truth at the bottom, and the Events list below.
On the phone: the season, as an arrivals board.
  • Custom domain

Served on Truth's own domain: fully owned, with no third-party branding in sight.

  • Custom branding

Truth's colours, fonts and logo on every screen, email and QR code.

  • Full data ownership

Every registration, purchase and interaction feeds Truth's own customer database.

Run by Truth's own team

A full content management system lets Truth's team create events, manage ticket types and allocations, and publish sponsor banners, with no developer involved.

  • Unlimited events

As many events as needed, each with its own ticket types, pricing phases and allocations.

  • Banner ads for sponsors

Static images, animated GIFs or rotating carousels, each with its own link, and views and clicks counted automatically.

The guest's journey, from the listing to the dance floor

Find a night, pick a phase, pay, share tickets with friends and walk in on a live QR code: every step under the Truth brand, and every step adding to Truth's own data.

Seven steps

  1. Find a nightTruth's own site lists every event, each with its own ticket types, pricing phases and allocations. Truth home screen with an arrivals-board picture of upcoming events and the Events list below.
  2. Log in or registerEach guest registers with Truth, so the email address, phone number and purchase history belong to Truth. Truth login screen with Login and Register tabs, email and password fields and a Login button.
  3. Pick a phase and your ticketsEarly Bird, Phase 1, Phase 2 or Door, each with its own price, dates and allocation, and a limit per order. Promo codes go in at the bottom. Truth Buy Tickets screen for Big Weekend, with Phase 1 and Phase 2 ticket prices, availability and a promo code field.
  4. Pay securelyCard payments run through the Adumo gateway, and the booking fee is shown up front, so the ticket price stays clean.
  5. Send tickets to friendsExtra tickets, or the rest of a table bundle, go to friends by WhatsApp link. Each friend registers with Truth to accept, and the ticket moves to their own Passport.
  6. Show your Truth Passport at the doorA live QR code that refreshes every 30 seconds. Door staff scan it and every scan is logged, so a screenshot or a second entry fails. My Truth Passport on a phone: the Truth logo above a QR code that refreshes in 30 seconds.
  7. Promote, earn, or upgradeOnline promoters share their own code or link and earn commission on every ticket sold through it. Any guest can upgrade General Access to VIP and pay only the difference. Truth Online Promoters screen with stats, invites, commissions and payments buttons and a Promote panel for sharing a promo code.

Every feature, in detail

A ticketing engine built for the full complexity of a venue like Truth, with the selling, marketing and paying-out tools around it. Six integrated components, one platform, no third-party dependency; the door has a chapter of its own.

Phased pricing that moves on by itself4 phases
  1. Early BirdOpens first
  2. Phase 1Opens when Early Bird closes
  3. Phase 2Opens when Phase 1 closes
  4. DoorThe final, walk-in price

Each phase has its own start date, end date and ticket allocation. If a phase sells out before its end date, the platform automatically opens the next one, with no one at a keyboard. A phase can also close by date even if it has not sold out.

On the Big Weekend listing, for example, Phase 1 was R150 plus a R14.50 booking fee and Phase 2 R200 plus R17, with a maximum of five tickets a person.

Buy Tickets screen: Phase 1 at R150 plus R14.50 booking fee, sales close 31 May at 20:00, 150 available; Phase 2 at R200 plus R17, sales open 30 May at 20:00, 120 available; maximum 5 per person.
Three ticket typesGA · VIP · Table
  • General Access

Standard admission with up to four pricing phases: Early Bird, Phase 1, Phase 2 and Door, each moving on at sell-out or its end date.

  • VIP

A premium tier with its own allocation and pricing. General Access holders can upgrade after buying and pay only the difference.

  • Table booking

A bundle, for example six admission tickets with a spirit bottle or drinks tab in one price. The other tickets go to guests by WhatsApp.

Limits, transfers and upgrades
  • Ticket limits: a total for each ticket type, and a maximum a single customer can buy per order.
  • Transfer by WhatsApp: extra tickets or bundle tickets go to friends by WhatsApp link. Friends register with Truth to accept, linking the ticket to their own Truth Passport.
  • Upgrades: customers can move up a ticket type after buying (General Access to VIP, say) and pay only the difference, in their account.
Payments through Adumo

Full Adumo payment gateway integration for secure card processing. Truth can pass transaction and processing fees straight to the customer, which keeps the ticket price clean and means the venue no longer absorbs platform costs.

Online promoters and commission

Truth's team signs up online promoters who sell tickets with their own promo codes and links, earning commission on every ticket sold through them. A two-tier structure of managers and promoters keeps commission organised and payable through the platform.

Managers

  • Add and manage promoters under their own account
  • See commission earned by each promoter, live
  • Track money due to the manager and to each promoter

Promoters

  • Create a custom promo code and get a custom link on sign-up
  • See tickets sold through their link, live
  • Commission earned, and commission paid by their manager
Truth Online Promoters screen: Stats, Invites, My Promoters, Promote, My Commissions, My Banking Details and My Payments buttons, and a Promote panel with a promo code field, a Copy button and social sharing and direct link options.
Email campaigns, built in

A full email marketing tool inside the platform, sending from the Truth brand to Truth's own first-party database.

  • Unlimited campaigns, with no send limits or monthly caps
  • Custom HTML templates for pixel-perfect branded emails
  • Merge fields: first name, ticket type, event details and more
  • Targeting by ticket type, event, registration date or opt-in status
  • Delivered, bounced, opened and unsubscribed counted for every campaign
Sponsor banners and the content system

Truth's team publishes banner placements for brand sponsors from the same content system it uses for events: static, animated or carousel banners, each with its own link and its own view and click counts. Sponsorship becomes a line Truth can sell, measured on its own platform.

Chapter 5 of 9

At the door

Screenshots don't scan.

Every ticket is linked to the buyer's Truth Passport, a dynamic QR code that refreshes every 30 seconds. Sharing a picture of it is pointless, and every scan at the door is a live check of a real ticket.

The Truth Passport

  • Each ticket is linked to a personal QR code
  • The code refreshes every 30 seconds, so screenshots are invalid
  • Extra tickets travel by WhatsApp link from the ticket portal, never as a static code
  • A friend who accepts a ticket registers, and it moves to their own Passport

The scanner

  • Many staff scanner accounts, run from one admin panel
  • Guests show their live Passport code at the door
  • Staff validate it in real time; a static screenshot will not scan
  • Every scan is logged, so one ticket cannot get two people in

Now live Facial recognition at the door

Truth's access control now includes a facial recognition app at the entry points: no wristbands, and multi-gate, fraud-proof entry that ties each face to a verified ticket.

  • Face linked to ticket

The guest's face is scanned and linked to their ticket at registration, so no wristband or QR code is needed at the door.

  • Many gates at once

Several entry and exit points work at the same time, all checking the same ticket database in real time.

  • No ticket sharing

The person walking in must be the registered ticket holder, so sharing a ticket simply does not work.

  • One mounted tablet

Turnstile access control from a mounted tablet that runs Face ID and QR scanning in the same app.

Results so far

11,560 registrations. 7,449 tickets. 8 months.

In under a year since launch, Truth's own platform has built a database of 11,560 registered members and sold 7,449 tickets, with every email address, phone number and purchase history belonging to Truth, not a third party.

    First-party data, owned by Truth

Owning the infrastructure changed the commercial model. The transaction fees once paid to Howler now pass through to the customer, keeping ticket revenue clean. The promoter system created a network of people actively selling Truth tickets for commission. And the email tool lets Truth market to its whole registered database with no per-send costs or platform limits.

The 30-second Passport code ended the most common kind of nightclub ticket fraud, screenshot sharing, without adding friction for real ticket holders, while staff scanner accounts keep the right access levels across the whole door team.

“11,560 registrations in 8 months — and every single one of them is a Truth customer, not a Howler customer. That's the fundamental shift. The platform paid for itself in data ownership alone.”

Proposal, July 2025

The membership platform we proposed

Truth is open on Saturday nights only, and its regulars came back on word of mouth alone. We proposed a free Truth membership on the web: one place to get in, earn points and be rewarded for coming back. Two versions, each with a drinks sponsor: Grizzly on 1 July 2025 and Jameson two weeks later.

A packed Truth dance floor under blue stage lights, with a lighting rig and a wide video wall above the crowd.

Show up. Turn up. Level up.

  • Free sign-up in under a minute, with a social login or email
  • The Truth Passport: a QR code that changes every 30 seconds
  • Free entry before 11pm for members
  • Points for attendance streaks, referrals and bar spend
  • Weekly and overall leaderboards
  • Later: a Truth Wallet for a cashless bar

How members would earn

A verified member at the door18+ checked once

The door scans the Passport and sees the member's photo and date of birth. The member shows ID once and is tagged as verified, so later visits are faster. Unverified members show ID every time. It keeps under-18s out and stops shared or fake accounts.

Streaks for coming back+100 · +200 · +500

Two Saturdays in a row earn 100 points, three earn 200 and four earn 500. Miss a week and the streak starts again.

Invite a friend+50 points

Members send a personal link on WhatsApp. Points come only when the friend registers and is scanned in at the door, so they reward real feet through the door, not just sign-ups.

LeaderboardsWeekly top 10

A weekly board resets every Sunday at 8am, with prizes for the top earners. An overall board counts every point since joining and unlocks VIP perks in a later phase.

Drink specials and the bar10 points per R100

Member-only specials, claimed by scanning a QR code at the bar or paid from the Truth Wallet. Specials can be aimed at a membership level, a streak or every active member, and push alerts announce new ones.

Challenges, surveys and a birthday bonus

Weekly Post and Tag challenges (50 points for a verified post), short surveys on music and drinks, a suggestion box, 13 badges to collect, and a birthday week with free VIP entry and 500 bonus points. Points are spent in a rewards store.

The sponsor layer

  • A branded bar inside Truth. Members scan their Passport when they buy the sponsor's drinks and earn points on the spot.
  • Points beyond the club. Members buy the brand at a liquor store, upload the till slip, and AI checks the item, date and store before the points land.
  • Digital vouchers. Points turn into a personal voucher for the brand, each one tracked to its redemption.
  • Branded rewards. Sponsor cans, T-shirts and hoodies in the rewards store.

The proposal listed what it would measure: members, weekly active members, referrals that turn into visits, streaks, points and badges, ticket and drink spend, and social shares. It has not run, so there are no results.

  • Truth membership screen, Drink Specials: a Grizzly can at R45 with the line Earn 10 points.
Drink specialsThe sponsor's drink, with points attached.
  • Truth membership screen, Store: a black Grizzly hoodie for R650 or 6,500 points, a size picker and a Claim button.
    Rewards storePoints become branded gear.

Much of the foundation is now live in the ticketing platform above: registration, the 30-second Passport and Truth's own data. The same membership idea was also proposed with MXD: see the Truth x MXD proposal.
