Cookie notice

Last updated: 5 October 2026

How Hello Brand uses cookies and similar technologies on this website, and how the campaign pages of Hello Brand OS, operated by Social Wiiv, use them. Read it with our privacy notice.

1. Introduction

This notice covers www.hellobrand.co.za, run by Hello Brand (Pty) Ltd, and the campaign and sign-up pages of Hello Brand OS, which is built on Social Wiiv's platform and operated by Social Wiiv (Pty) Ltd for us. It explains what cookies and similar technologies are, which ones are used, why, for how long, on what legal basis, and how you can control them.

This website

Sets no cookies and runs no analytics, advertising or social media tracking. It uses your browser's session storage for a few settings, listed below.

Campaigns on Hello Brand OS

Use the platform's essential cookies and, only with your consent, analytics and campaign cookies. Social Wiiv's Cookie Policy (socialwiiv.com/Cookie-Policy.html) covers these in full.

2. The law we follow

We handle cookie-related information under:

  • the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA);
  • the EU General Data Protection Regulation, for people in the European Economic Area, where it applies;
  • other privacy and electronic communications laws that apply.

What that means in practice

We say clearly which cookies are used and why, ask before anything non-essential is set, let you change your mind, protect what is collected, and hold our service providers to written agreements. Where different laws apply, we follow the stricter standard.

3. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a website places on your device so it can recognise it, remember settings and stay secure. First-party cookies are set by the site you visit; third-party cookies are set by other services built into it. Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser; persistent cookies stay for a set time or until you delete them.

Similar technologies include pixels or tags (small pieces of code that measure activity), local and session storage (data kept in your browser), and device identifiers or session tokens (which keep a login secure). In this notice, “cookies” includes all of these.

4. What this website uses

This website sets no cookies. It uses session storage only, which your browser clears when you close the tab, and none of it holds your name, email, phone number or other contact details.

5. Cookies on Hello Brand OS

When you join a venue's guest Wi-Fi or take part in a campaign, the platform pages use these types of cookies, as Social Wiiv describes them:

  • Essential

Needed for login sessions, security (including protection against cross-site request forgery), device and platform recognition, and core features. They cannot be switched off in the cookie controls.

  • Analytics

Show how people use the platform, such as pages visited and session length, so it can be kept stable and improved. Aggregated or anonymised where possible, and set only after you consent.

  • Campaign and referral

Track referrals and campaign participation so points, credits and rewards are allocated correctly. Used only inside the platform, never for advertising or cross-site tracking, and set with consent where the law requires.

  • First and third party

First-party cookies are set by the platform. Third-party cookies are set by analytics and performance-monitoring services built into it.

6. How cookies are used

  • To provide the service: logins, sessions and features that work across devices and browsers.
  • For security and fraud prevention: blocking unauthorised access and attacks such as cross-site request forgery.
  • For your preferences: login choices, device type and how content is shown.
  • To run campaigns and referrals: allocating points, rewards and credits under each campaign's rules.
  • To monitor and improve performance: aggregated analytics on stability and use.
  • To meet legal and contractual duties: audit logs, enforcing terms and data protection compliance.

Cookies are never used for targeted advertising, and cookie data is never sold.

7. Legal basis

  • Legitimate interests

Essential cookies and this website's session storage keep the service secure and working. They do not need consent where the law allows.

  • Your consent

Analytics and campaign cookies are set only after you agree, and you can withdraw at any time. Withdrawing does not affect what happened before.

  • Legal obligations

Some processing is needed for security monitoring, audits or lawful requests from regulators, limited to what is necessary.

This website sets nothing that needs consent, so it shows no cookie banner. If we ever add analytics or other non-essential technologies, we will ask before setting them and update this notice first.

On Hello Brand OS, the platform shows a cookie banner the first time you visit, where you can accept or decline non-essential cookies. You can change your choice at any time through the platform's “Manage cookie preferences” option or your browser settings. Essential cookies are set automatically; blocking them may stop parts of the platform from working. Records of consent are kept where the law requires.

9. Managing cookies

  • Platform controls. Accept, decline or change consent for analytics and campaign cookies in the platform's cookie preferences.
  • Browser settings. Block all cookies, accept or reject some, delete stored cookies or session storage, or be told when cookies are set.
  • Google Analytics. Opt out with Google's browser add-on (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout).
  • Azure Application Insights. Ask us, and we will pass your request to Social Wiiv.

Global Privacy Control

Where your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, the platform treats it as a request to switch off non-essential cookies that rely on consent.

10. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

There is no agreed standard for responding to “Do Not Track” signals, so the platform does not respond to them automatically. This website does no tracking either way. Global Privacy Control signals are respected on the platform where they can be detected and the law requires it.

11. Third parties

On this website, the only third-party service is jsDelivr, which delivers the Bootstrap framework and sets no cookies. On the platform, Social Wiiv uses Google Analytics and Microsoft Azure Application Insights for operational analytics and performance monitoring only, not for advertising or profiling, and only after consent where required. Their cookies are governed by those providers' own policies, under data processing agreements with Social Wiiv.

12. Information outside South Africa

Social Wiiv hosts the platform on Microsoft Azure in South Africa, and its analytics providers may process limited technical information outside South Africa. Such transfers follow POPIA (section 72) and, where it applies, the GDPR, using data processing agreements, standard contractual clauses or other lawful mechanisms, and are limited to what is needed. Hello Brand's website is hosted by Social Wiiv.

13. Security

Social Wiiv states that the platform protects cookie-related information with:

  • Encryption

TLS in transit and AES-256 at rest.

  • Secure sessions

Token-based authentication, session protection, CSRF and anti-forgery tokens.

  • Controlled access

Role-based access, monitoring, security logs and audit trails, on secured Azure infrastructure.

Measures are reviewed regularly, including through security assessments and testing. No transmission or storage is completely secure, so please protect your logins and keep your browser up to date. More detail is in Social Wiiv's Trust Center (socialwiiv.com/Security-Trust.html).

14. How long they last

Each cookie lasts only as long as its purpose needs, as shown in the tables above. Session storage and session cookies end when you close the tab or browser; persistent cookies expire after their set time or when you delete them. Deleting essential platform cookies may affect how the platform works. Retention periods are reviewed regularly.

15. Children

Our services are for businesses. Taking part in Hello Brand campaigns is for people aged 18 and over. The platform's MinAge cookie supports the age check. Cookies are not used to profile or target children. If you believe a child has given personal information through a campaign without authorisation, contact us and we will investigate and delete it where appropriate.

16. This notice and our privacy notice

Read this notice with our privacy notice, which explains more broadly what personal information we collect, why, and your rights. If the two conflict on personal information, the privacy notice applies. For platform-level processing, see Social Wiiv's Privacy Policy (socialwiiv.com/Privacy-Policy.html) and Cookie Policy (socialwiiv.com/Cookie-Policy.html).

17. Changes to this notice

We will update this notice when the law, guidance or our technology changes, and change the date at the top. For material changes we will tell you on this website, and we will ask for consent again if the purpose of a non-essential cookie changes.
