Service 03 · Media and screens

Retail media, Off Trade

We turn screens and shelves in shops into media shoppers can scan, buy from and be rewarded for, with the purchase proved.

What you get

See all work with results

Screens and shelves in shops that shoppers scan, buy from and are rewarded by.

Sponsorship creates attention. Retail media turns it into measurable commerce: the moment a shopper sees your brand is linked to what goes in the basket.

Screens in the store
  • Full screen, window

  • Full screen, LED wall

  • Portrait POS

How it works

The mechanic stays the same in every store. The creative, prizes and sports moments change with each brand.

From the screen to the basket

  1. 01See

Retail and sponsorship media in store: screens, gondola ends, shelf and fridge-door media.

  2. 02Scan

A QR code or NFC tag opens the brand's experience.

  3. 03Buy

A participating product goes into the basket.

  4. 04Verify

Till-slip capture and loyalty data confirm the purchase.

  5. 05Return

Points and new moments bring the shopper back.

At the shelf

Every store becomes a place you can measure.

Displays at the door, talkers on the shelf and screens in the aisle all point to one offer. A scan opens it, and the till slip proves the sale.

Where it runs

  • Liquor stores
  • Supermarkets
  • Wholesalers
  • Mini markets
  • Spaza shops
  • Shopping centres

Spaza shops and small stores, too.

Most informal outlets have no screen and no loyalty card. Trade Connect reaches them on the phone they already have, with no app, and every order comes back to the brand as a record for that outlet.

  • Promotions by message

Launches, promotions and stock alerts sent by WhatsApp, SMS or USSD, straight to the counter.

  • Tokens for the outlet

Trade Tokens for stocking the product, following the price and joining the promotion.

  • What each store sells

Orders by product and pack size, outlet by outlet, with stock-outs flagged early.

  • Promotion results

Stock and sales in the outlets that ran the promotion, against the ones that did not.

What brands learn from the informal trade

Spaza TV: a screen at the counter Concept

A concept we are piloting: a small screen in a secure case at the spaza counter, carrying brand adverts where township shoppers buy. It starts with 20 shops in Soweto over six months.

  • Four adverts per screen

Each screen carries four advert slots, managed and changed remotely from one content system.

  • Built for load shedding

Screens run on batteries and keep the adverts stored on the device, then sync when power and signal return.

  • The shop owner earns

Owners earn a share of the advert revenue as stock vouchers, paid only when the screen stays on for more than 95% of the month.

  • Buy nationally or locally

Screens are grouped in clusters of 100, each with a field lead and a technician who fixes faults within four hours. Buy the whole network, one area, or only the screens near your store.

Where we have done it

Each project says how far it got: results, results to follow, a concept or work in progress.

  • Tyger Valley

A retail media network on the centre's LED screens.

  • Pick n Pay Connect

A proposed eight-month sport-to-commerce pilot across grocery and liquor stores.

  • PepsiCo

Retail media on the Tyger Valley screens, pitched to PepsiCo.

  • Woolworths

WLiving and WRewards: a rewards-led retail idea.
